Life in House

Ask any girl and she will tell you her House is the best.

Each has its own personality, its traditions, its quirks and its stories, yet all are united by a powerful sense of sisterhood, purpose and belonging.

At Sherborne Girls we are committed to providing an outstanding education that shapes habits, builds character and prepares young women for the world beyond. From the moment she joins, every girl is welcomed into a House community where her individual strengths, talents and interests are nurtured.

Our Houses are designed to support girls at every stage of their Sherborne journey.

West is our Junior House and is home to girls in L4 to U4 (Years 7 and 8). Wingfield Digby, Reader Harris, Kenelm, East and Dun Holme welcome girls from L5 to L6 (Years 9 to 12), creating vibrant and supportive communities for the middle and senior years. Mulliner is our U6 House (Year 13) and provides a dedicated space for our most senior girls as they prepare for life beyond school. Day girls are fully part of House life too, woven into the rhythms, friendships and routines that make each House feel like home.

At the heart of each House is a dedicated pastoral team. The Housemistress, Matrons and Tutors work together to support every girl, getting to know her, guiding her progress and helping her flourish both academically and personally.

This ethos reflects Sherborne Girls’ core values of curiosity, courage, compassion, adaptability and spirituality. Much of the vitality within each House comes from the girls themselves. Older pupils look out for younger ones, offering guidance, celebrating milestones and modelling empathy, integrity and kindness.

This daily, lived community creates something genuinely special. Each House becomes a family that is warm, spirited, inclusive and full of life. Girls are seen, heard and valued, and they learn how to uplift others in return.

The Houses reflect the school as a whole, grounded in values, rich in opportunity and deeply committed to helping every girl write the story of her life. Few foundations for life are stronger.
