Drama at Sherborne Boys
Empowering performers to grow, innovate, and captivate
Sherborne’s rich theatrical heritage is a constant source of inspiration within our department. With distinguished alumni such as Sir Richard Eyre, Jeremy Irons and Hugh Bonneville, our pupils step onto the stage knowing they are part of a remarkable tradition - one that supports them from their very first performance to their final audition.
Drama is a vibrant and inclusive part of School life. Alongside House productions and smaller studio pieces, we collaborate regularly with Sherborne Girls to stage ambitious large-scale shows. These productions span a wide range of genres and performance styles, ensuring that every boy can find his place - whether acting, directing, designing, or contributing to the technical and backstage teams.
As an academic subject, Drama is consistently popular and highly regarded. Pupils achieve excellent results at both GCSE and A level, supported by expert teaching and a curriculum that values creativity, discipline and performance craft.
LAMDA tuition is available for those wishing to develop their speech and performance skills further.
Scholars are nurtured through a bespoke programme designed to elevate their technique and leadership, while regular workshops with professional actors, directors, and producers ensure that boys experience the industry at first hand.
Sherborne has also taken shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where pupils have received excellent reviews – gaining confidence and insight into one of the world’s most demanding creative environments.
Drama at Sherborne is not just about performance – it’s about identity, confidence, and the shared joy of telling stories. It is a source of great pride, and a powerful expression of who we are as a School.
