Just the Ticket
An article in The Spectator Schools, Spring 2026, by Rupert Hawksley
Rupert Hawksley’s article ‘Just the Ticket’ in Spectator Schools Spring 2026 is a great read – he fondly remembers his involvement in the mock elections held in 2005 when he was a boy at Sherborne and how exciting it was at the time, learning some important life lessons and developing a long interest in politics.
It was good to see Rob LePoidevin's comments about the impact of the last mock election at Sherborne Boys alongside recollections from Sherborne Girls pupils who shared their experiences of taking part in their mock elections and how this also inspired pupils to go on to study politics at A Level and, in some cases, later at university.
Well done to all those brilliant teachers out there who are bringing politics to life for their young students - who knows where their interest will end? As Rupert concludes, “Westminster and the front bench await.”
